From Swaddles to Sleep Sacks to a Toddler Blanket & Pillow!

Swaddles

SwaddleMe Swaddles – I found these to be the perfect newborn swaddles for keeping the Moro reflex at bay while sleeping. There are differing opinions on swaddling but I am definitely in the “swaddle during the newborn phase” camp. Yes, there is a bit of a learning curve in teaching your baby how to enjoy the swaddle but once you are past that learning curve then swaddling can be so beneficial for longer stretches of sleep! I talk more about how to get your baby used to the swaddle in my Baby Sleep Tips blog post!

Muslin Blankets – I used these lightweight blankets during the day when my babies were having a contact nap or swing nap etc. They are also a great material for the baby to not get overheated and for you as the parent to perfect the manual swaddle wrap – Search on YouTube, “How to Swaddle a Baby”, Good luck, it can be tricky! Practice makes perfect ;).

Halo Swaddles – I used the Halo swaddles when our babies started to get a little bit too big for the SwaddleMe swaddles. They have a fleece option, which is great in the winter months, but be cautious that your baby doesn’t overheat in the fleece option. I found our babies would get too hot if I put them in a fleece sleeper and a fleece sleepsack. I also love that you can use these swaddles to start transitioning out of swaddles by practicing with one arm in, and one arm out. You have to transition out of swaddles once your baby starts showing signs of rolling (or before!).

Sleep Sacks

Halo Easy Transition Sleep Sacks – Once your baby is rolling, or close to it, you have to transition to a sleep sack. I love the Halo Easy Transition sleep sacks because they allow for arms out so it is safe if you baby rolls but it still keeps a bit of tension on their arms since that is what they are used to from being swaddled up until now. They also have a small and medium option!

Nest Designs Sleep Sacks – Once your baby is fully transitioned to a sleep sack, I can’t recommend Nest Designs sleep sacks enough! I absolutely love them. The quality is amazing and my favourite feature is the detachable sleeves!! In the summer months, I keep the sleeves off and in the winter months, I put the sleeves on. These sleep sacks are very reasonably priced and come in various sizes and TOGs so you will definitely find one that is perfect for your baby. If you are a Canadian like me, I am sure you will also love the fact that Nest Designs is a Canadian company!

Sleep Suits – I never used them with my kiddos – but Nest Designs does make sleep suits, which I think could be great in between option, between sleep sacks and going to a blanket, because as we all know, toddlers don’t actual keep their blanket on them all night.

Toddler Blanket & Toddler Pillow

Around the age of 2 – You can introduce a blanket and even a pillow if you’d like! I suggest a blanket the size of your toddler’s crib/bed and a nice flat pillow. Nest Designs has great quality Toddler Blankets & Pillows!
